A not so subtle opinion

How do you think we should spend that money?

I know one guy that probably wouldn’t spend it any other way.

Disposable DVD rentals

This is a terrible idea. I understand that for some people going out and renting a DVD is kind of a pain and so is returning the rented DVD, but that is why there is netflix. Is it really that much to ask to put a DVD in the mail every once in a while, apparently it is. I saw disposable DVD rentals at Staples yesterday and I just about wanted to vomit. The once consumer product that involves some form of sharing (DVD rentals), has to be made into something wasteful and bad for the environment. It has to take forever for a disc to decompose. Apparently, when a person “rents” one of these DVDs there is a compound that is released 48 hours later and the disc is unplayable. For the earth’s sake, I hope everyone recognizes how ridiculous an idea this is.

US Open Final Round- Tiger Woods’ 14th Major Championship

I am watching the US Open final round by myself and since I have no one to talk to, I’ll share my opinions here and update it as the day goes along.

First of all I’m going to be rooting for Tiger.

4:40 Its the 1st hole and I’m already tired of the announcers mentioning his knee. Ugh. Did you know that he has a knee injury?

4:44 p.m. Tiger looks like me on hole number one. I seriously could do better than his first four shots. Tiger is a hack. Too bad for everyone else he will probably still win the tournament.

4:50 p.m. Tiger starts out with a double bogey, again, I’m interested to see how quickly he can bounce back. His driver has been pretty wild this week and he’s still in it. His drive on number two is in the rough. Maybe he wont win. At least Roco Mediate missed his short birdie putt on number 3.

5:02 Tiger three putts on number two and he two shots back. I’m pretty shocked at how bad he looks today. He should have made his putt for par. I still feel like he will win, even though I always feel that way, even when he’s like four shots back with three holes to go.

5:18 Tiger’s got it back together-made par and set up to make another at four. Roco made a bogey at the fifth. It’s over. The legend of Tiger continues to grow.

6:14 The last hour has been pretty lame. Westwood just missed a pretty easy birdie put and is still up by one. Tiger is still lurking one behind. Can someone please entertain me? How about a birdie?

6:41- Tiger got his birdie, he’s set up for a second in a row on the 10th and Westwood is in trouble. Give Tiger Woods the jug already!

6:51- Tiger missed his birdie chance at 10, but has a gimmie for birdie on 11 and Westwood is in the bunker. I never really doubted that Tiger would get to this point, but after the first two holes, he really looked like he was in trouble. He’s got it all together right now, well, except for his balding head.

6:58- Tiger is all alone at the top of the leader-board. In other news, Lee Westwood continues to self-destruct.

7:11- I cannot believe that I can watch Tiger approach a 270 yard shot with an iron in his hand. It’s unbelievable- I think my best drive would end up well short of 270 yards on a good day. More evidence that Tiger is better than me in every way.

7:17- Roco Mediate had a four foot putt to grab a share of the lead and totally shanked it. I think they should allow Tiger to carry the jug around with him on the back nine. He’s got a one shot lead and he’s playing a par five. It’s over, it was over a long time ago, but its still over.

7:33- Didn’t see that coming. Tiger hit one out of bounds and made a bogey on a par five while Roco Mediate birdied 14. Tiger moves one behind Mediate. I hope Tiger goes for the green on the 14th. He’s overdue for an eagle, right?!

7:51- He should have gone for it. He made an easy par and he’s still one back. It would be fun to see him come to 18 one shot down. WAIT! Roco just missed an easy par putt and Tiger is tied for the lead! Horray!!

8:01- Just when I was enjoying the fact that the announcers had forgotten to tell us about Tiger’s knee, Johnny Miller reminded us all that he had surgery on his knee. Captivating.

8:18- Tiger is one shot back and on 17. Roco just put one in the rough on the 18th. My hopes are still high, but my concerns are growing…

8:29- Rocco finished at one under. Tiger needs a birdie on 17 or 18. Wouldn’t it be crazy to have Westwood swoop in and win in the last two holes. That would be a shock. Rocco was fun to watch either way. He seems like a really good man, but I’m still rooting for Tiger.

8:34- That was a clutch putt for par on 17 for Lee Westwood. I cant imagine what that would feel like.

8:46- Tiger makes a clutch approach on 18 to give himself a shot for birdie…

8:53- UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!! Only TIger could make that kind of putt. I can’t wait to watch the playoff tomorrow at work. It’s so great to see Tiger’s reaction. Its going to be a great day tomorrow. Go Tiger! It’s been fun to do a live blog of sorts.

I LOVE Tiger Woods

You’ve got to be kidding me with Tiger’s performance on Saturday. A couple Eagles, an impossible chip in. The man can do anything in golf. He hasn’t walked a round since before he had knee surgery and he’s atop the leaderboard of the US Open, the US Open! I cannot believe it. I haven’t seen the highlights, but from what I’ve read, Tiger has had some trouble walking after a few of his shots. So basically the tournament is over because when Tiger is leading a major going into the final day he doesn’t lose. Just another championship to add to the legend of Tiger Woods. I’m looking forward to watching the final round tomorrow.

Head of State

I rented head of state today so I could watch it with my wife tonight.

A scene that is pretty funny went like this. The nominee for president died and they had no chance of winning the fictional 2004 election. They decided to put up a minority so that the minorities would like their party and help their chances in the 2008 election.

Sweet, sweet irony. This should be an interesting election year. Happy voting everyone. When you vote for president this year you will have an opportunity that no other people in the history of America has ever had. See you at the polls!

This is beautiful

For some ideas check this out.

I get really excited about these ideas and that they’re so easy to do. The one discouraging thing for me is that with the economy being the way it is, it is so hard to give for so many people. I was in high school in the 90’s so I didn’t really know/care about these ideas back then, but I wonder if they were around and how much people gave during that time in American history. Either way, they are all beautiful ideas and unbelievable simple and practical.

My Lawn

I’m pretty proud of our lawn. I dont put a ton of work into it, but I probably spend about two or three hours a week on it. Maybe I do spend a lot of time on it. The reason I am proud of it is because it is pretty organic. We have not put any fertilizer into it, which is actually really bad for the environment and the water that it end up in. I also have not used any gas on our lawn either. That photo above is of our new mower, which is an old school push mower. It works pretty well, the things it doesn’t do it collect any clippings or leaves or helicopters that fall from our tree. I probably have raked up about a million of those little buggers. So it is kind of annoying to have to rake everything up. It is really good for me to be outside and has been a really great stress reliever for me. I generally throw on an ipod and do a bit of work outside until I grow tired of it. The other thing that isn’t up to par about our mower is that it allows some of the weeds to grow and doesn’t cut up some of these thicker blades of grass that grow tall and strong, which kind of sucks, but these things are a small price to pay for an environmentally healthy lawn. My lawn is definitely one of the joys of home ownership. I love that I can mow my lawn at whatever time of the day without bothering anyone and it will still look great and help me feel great. Hurray for lawns!
