Laura’s Grandpa

Laura’s Grandpa passed away this week. He was diagnosed with cancer about a year ago, he didn’t want to be treated and he didn’t want to be stuck in the hospital. So we knew that there wouldn’t be much time left to spend with him. He was able to die peacefully over the last week and he died at home a couple nights ago. It was really nice that everyone was able to say goodbye to him. Laura’s 1st grade cousin was really terrified by seeing his Grandpa in such rough shape, it was really sad, he was the only Grandpa he had ever known and its really been hard for him to see his only Grandpa go. He was a good man, really, really funny. He would always make subtle comments here and there that were absolutely hysterical, in the way that only old people can.

Laura and I have been at peace with the whole situation. His passing was really peaceful and expected and that really makes a huge difference. So I was sitting at home this morning paying some bills and telling myself that I really needed to get some homework done when there was a knock at the door. I wasn’t expecting anyone, I went to the door and saw a man with flowers. It was really a nice surprise and I thought it was from my mom and dad, but it actually came from our mars hill family. Sometimes I feel like things like this would fall through the cracks in such a large church, but it didn’t. It really warms my heart to know that we have a church family that we absolutely love and know that they love us. So thank you for the flowers if you’re reading.

The funeral is tomorrow, which is going to make for a crazy day- the river bank run, the funeral and then work at night. It’s going to be a roller coaster.
